“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
Goodness is the selfless desire to be open hearted and giving to others above what they deserve. This is very hard for some people especially when someone truly believes a person deserves negative attention rather than positive. Jesus reminded us that we are to remain without a vengeful heart and instead treat those who should be treated poorly with a kind and good heart but in a tough love manner.
We are to trust in God as our protector. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture (Psalm 37:3). The prophet Nahum tells us: The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him (Nahum 1:7). If we trust in the Father then He will be there to protect us. Though it may seem like we still have difficulties, God is there. We are to trust God even to our death.
It is hard to be a good person all the time thanks to our human sinful nature. We must continue to trust in God with all our heart so that we can “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:14)”.
The more we seek to be good followers of Christ and Children of God, the easier times will be for us and we will find rest from the world.
This is what the Lord says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16
We are constantly standing at those crossroads especially in this day and age where persecution is on the rise and we must make choices that determine our earthly status to keep living in the now. The thing is, if we live for today there is little hope that tomorrow will bring peace. If we stay firm and continue to walk in the way of the Father then we will find rest and have eternal life in the Kingdom.
In order to live for the Father through the Son and the Holy Spirit we must be firm in our faith. Remaining in good faith is the first step to finding God’s everlasting love and to live it. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 2 Peter 1:5-7
If we continue in our faithfulness and stay from wavering, we can show the world who is the true ruler, savior, redeemer. It isn’t money or anything made by man. It isn’t human progressive ways. It isn’t technological advances. God is.
To this end we must remember to seek out others who are good and faithful servants that do not rely on mechanical or physical means but the Will of God and His Grace, Mercy, and goodness that keeps this world in motion.
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13
